Kimbell Gardens   |   SW6

Project Brief:  To extend and refurbish the ground floor and garden of a terraced house in Fulham.

A significant number of terraced houses including Kimbell Gardens were built at the end of the 19th Century and were designed for living in that age. The conundrum that faces many of our clients today is how to deal with the often wasted 'dining room' at ground floor level; a room that is rarely used and frequently an unintended storage area.

Working with the designers and client on the project, we came up with a solution to fully utilise this room with clear views through the existing hallway and from the sitting area. We achieved this by changing the floor levels to the kitchen, by installing pyro glass at the end of the entrance hall and by using bi-folding fire doors to access the room. Sliding glazed doors and a minimal supported glazed roof were chosen for the kitchen area to allow in light and to also provide an uninterrupted view into a low maintenance, stunning garden.

Finishing touches to this beautiful space included real oak flooring, bespoke joinery, a recessed TV and fire and a gloss white kitchen.
